Squam Lake Ice Kayaking

I went kayaking last Thursday and here is a short video for those of you who have never seen the ice go out on Squam Lake.  Happy paddling!

High Dive Anyone?

This is the Deephaven Main Dock high dive as ice breaks up in the Bight.

It won't be too long before kids are jumping into the lake, but right now it would be a cold swim.

View From Red Hill

Gunnar Berg, the mastermind of CyberPine Wireless Networks, which provides internet access to Rockywold-Deephaven Camps was repairing the antenna on the Red Hill Firetower yesterday (March 16th) and took this photo of the Squam ice going out.  Most of the islands are ice free, although Bennet Cove and Sandwich Bay are still covered with ice.

Ice Breaking Up at Pine Needle Point

The ice is starting to break up on Squam Lake on March 16th, which is about a month earlier than usual.  The ice has opened up from Deephaven to Otter and Birch Islands.  The boating season will be here soon!  Here is a photograph from Flagstaff Point looking across the Bight to Pine Needle Point. Beautiful Morning at Ark

The weather at Squam has been unseasonably warm for mid March. The past five days have been warm with clear blue skies and the ice along the Deephaven shore is starting to break up. Here is a photograph from Wednesday morning (March 10th) at Ark.

Looking out from Honeymoon

Here is a view of Squam from inside Honeymoon cottage in Rockywold.  Mud season came early this year and most of the snow has melted.  Time for maple sugaring!

View from West Water

Here is a view of the Squam Range from West Water.  The granite boulder creates a nice foreground.  Gotta love Squam Lake in the winter!

View from Honeymoon

This is the view of the mountains north of Squam from Honeymoon's dock on February 19th, 2010.  Most of the recent snow has melted and it has turned cold and windy today.  I love the way Red Pines look against the sky and this particular tree has seen its share of wind.  Enjoy!

"We feel rooted within our own families as well as with those special friends we meet at this place. We are regenerated by Squam Lake's natural wonders-- fragrant pines, mountain summits, star-filled night skies, and haunting loon calls, to name a few.

Those of us lucky enough to spend some summer days at RDC share in a restful calm. We are certainly grateful for this unique place of simplicity and peace. I know we take this spirit with us when we leave Squam, counting the days until we can return".
