Odds Bodkin, award-winning master storyteller, children’s author and musician creates a warm, easygoing atmosphere for learning with his extemporaneous music on 12-string guitar and Celtic harp.
The Door to Imagination is based on Odds’ graduate level courses in storytelling taught at Antioch New England Graduate School, now Antioch New England University. There is no performance pressure on participants - just insights and skills you can take with you and apply to work and home life.
As individual teachers, school administrators, librarians or parents --anyone who works with today's children--we are competing for their attention against a media environment so wired, so overwhelming and so adult, that often, when we talk to them, they do not listen. Although TV, video gaming, the movies, and the www are produced by highly creative teams of people, increasing numbers of children whose cognitions have been hyper—and hypo—stimulated by screen life are losing vital areas of creative intelligence and imagination.
What grows imagination best? The answer would sound stodgy if it weren't so surprisingly basic to the growth of creative minds: listening to someone you love or respect read or tell you stories. The Door to Imagination is about learning to tell those stories—whichever sort you may choose--in your own words, from your own creative imagination.
Learn the secret of storytelling—how to imagine vividly, then speak clearly. Filled with practical knowledge from Odds Bodkin, who The New York Times calls “a consummate storyteller”.
