ICE OUT!!!

Posted on: Thursday March 25, 2010 By: John

The Ice is Out on the Squam Lakes. On Tuesday, March 23rd the Squam Lakes were navigable from the covered bridge in Ashland to the Sandwich Town Beach. According to local unofficial records, that is the earliest ice out on record. Ice out on Lake Winnipesaukee was one day later, also a record. The Big Lake has better data for this annual event. The previous ice out record for Lake Winnipesakee was March 28, 1921. Since the ice is out so early this year, we might be able to expect warmer lake water temperatures in June...the time of year to take advantage of our 20% discount ; )

"Boil 'til it's done" - until you make the day's "run". New Hampshire is experiencing the perfect weather to make the sap flow - warm days and freezing nights. If you're in the area, be sure to visit some of the local sugar houses and sample some sugar-on-snow! If you can't make it, you can always find the finished product in the RDC Store!

Icing on Monday!

Posted on: Friday January 15, 2010 By: John

Hello again from the snow covered shores of Squam. Our annual ice harvest will begin on Monday, January 18th and probably wind down on Thursday morning. The operation will take place just off the shore from the Deephaven boat launch. We have 12 inches of beautiful black ice. If you are in the area, stop by to check out the action. If you do, please be sure to stop in at the Winter Office (Roswell) before you head down to the ice. And, don't forget to bring your skates! Squam has near perfect ice skating conditions. Hope to see you on the ice!!!

Happy New Year!

Posted on: Wednesday January 13, 2010 By: Kathy

Happy New Year from RDC and welcome to our brand new website!!! We hope you like it. Please let us know what you think. Our 2010 Winter Newsletter, "The Barque & Bight", is on its way to the Holderness Post Office and should be in your hands, via bulk mail, in the next two weeks. We have between 10 and 11 inches of beautiful "black ice" off the shore of Deep End. That means our icing operation will be taking place very soon...maybe next week or as soon as the ice gets to 12 inches in thickness. The skating on Squam Lake is the best we have experienced in 20 years. We will be updating RDC News at least a couple times a week so please check back regularly to see what is happening on and off the shores of Squam.
